OUR STORY

Namib Blue offers premium, world-class fresh produce that’s grounded in a truly Namibian story.

Combining the best of a beautiful land – soil, sun and a pioneering people – the fruit we grow is drenched with flavour, goodness and wholesomeness, in more ways than one. At the core of Namib Blue is quality. And quality always starts with commitment – to the best growing practices, to the land and to the people who make it happen.

This is why we invest in areas with great potential – rural communities with fertile soil and a viable, local workforce. We aim to avoid the convention of migratory labour, that separates families. Our strategy is to work with communities to cultivate the soil on their doorstep; protecting family structures, creating jobs and enabling sustainable local economies along the way.

REGION

Quality starts with commitment – to the best growing practices, to the land and to the people who make it happen.

Tucked into the northeast corner of our vast country is Namibia’s Kavango East region. A gem of a rural community where the fertile soil, hot Namibian sun, high rainfall and life-giving Kavango River combine to offer the perfect conditions for growing our premium crops.

Of course, a place is nothing without its people – the local Mashare community forms the heart of Namib Blue, working the land to uncover its rich potential. It’s a co-operative farming method that creates jobs and sustainable rural economies, and it’s also ground-breaking in approach: We aim to avoid the convention of migratory labour that separates families. We collaborate with rural communities to cultivate their local, viable land. Bringing economic opportunity to the people as opposed to bringing the people to the opportunity means healthier, intact family structures; better living standards and a stronger society structure.

To further this vision, Namib Blue is in the process of establishing additional programs within Mashare village:

  • A bursary programme at the local schools, as well as school outings to educate children about the agricultural industry and its promising career options.
  • A borehole project to provide the community with fresh water.
  • A beef market, whereby the community will have market for their cattle which was previously difficult.
  • A community garden where locals can grow their own grains and vegetables.

Our longer-term vision is to replicate what is being done in Mashare to other rural areas – wherever there is viable land and workforce. Because Namibia is not just a beautiful country of desert dunes; it’s a land of great potential in its soil and its people.

MARKETS & PRODUCE

Sun, soil and a pioneering spirit combine to grow our delicious export produce, taking the best of our beautiful land to markets across the globe.

Our current focus is blueberries, and our Mashare Farm is Nambia’s first-ever commercial berry plantation. Blueberries are well known for its delicious taste and health benefits. It is a versatile superfood in high demand across the world. By exporting to amongst others Europe, Great Britain and the middle east, our premium product, creates jobs, earns hard currency and stimulates our own, local economy.

As we expand our operations across Namibia, we are growing both our product line and our export market to cultivate and deliver even more world-class fresh fruit and vegetables.
